Spring Training 2006 Arizona Cactus LeagueYou know it is Spring again when the Cactus League teams show up and begin their annual spring training circuit. Arizona hosts these 12 big league clubs in the Cactus League each spring. The excitement begins in the last two weeks of February as the teams get out and start practicing. Fans will find players willing to autograph during the relaxed practice games. Be sure to bring your own pen and souvenir material.
The Arizona Cactus League has grown over the years to its current peak of 12 teams and nine ballparks. The games are spread between the Phoenix area and Tuscon area. The Tuscon games are worth the short road trip from Phoenix.
In Tuscon, the Chicago White Sox (reigning World Series Champion) have training games at Tuscon Electric Park. The White Sox finally earn bragging rights over their north-side rival Cubs. The Arizona Diamondbacks share spring headquarters with the White Sox and have generally received more attention in town. That will probably change this year. The White Sox will enter the field with a World Series flag flying over their ballpark. Baseball fans have been going to Tuscon since 1947 when the cleveland Indians began playing spring exhibition games at Hi Corbett Field.
